Singapore, 19, Aug 2020- The popular online conferencing app, Zoom has opened its first data centre in Singapore. This would be the first in South Asia. Since the beginning of this pandemic, Zoom has been widely in use all around the globe for the purposes of business, meetings, teaching at schools through the Zoom platform and much more. It was the only app being used at that time when the culture of work from home started to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
Recently, with the growing utilization of the app, Zoom Video Communications had been facing scrutiny over its speculated mishandling of data. The government of Singapore even banned it in the month of April 2020 for home-based educational use when hackers posted some obscene content online. But the ban was lifted after a short while. A similar doubt on the privacy of Zoom prompted the Indian Home Ministry, allowing it to release a guideline that restricted the use of the platform by any Government officials for their official purposes. The Indian government further tagged Zoom as an unsafe platform.
Although, the platform had been putting up its efforts by making advances and reassuring everyone about the secure environment in which Zoom operates. The company acquired Keybase to strengthen the security of its communication platform. Keybase was used to develop the end-to-end encryption for the Zoom app to provide maximum possible privacy. It has been publishing 90-Day Security Plan Progress Reports on its blog to assure people with the security features within the app. Now, with its ever-growing popularity Zoom recently launched Hardware-as-a-Service (HaaS) subscription service. It allows organizations to deploy next-gen solutions and that too without any significant upfront new hardware costs. It has also come out with Poly Solutions for Zoom Rooms with its Studio X30 and X50, which are certified Zoom Rooms Appliances.
Zoom’s first-quarter revenue for FY 2021 which was announced on 2, June 2020 was USD 328.2million which is a 169% increase year-over-year. TTM revenue was up by 90% year-over-year with 769 customers contributing more than USD 100,000. GAAP income from its operations was USD 23.4 million which was way higher than FY 20’s first quarter at USD 1.6 million. It also released its estimates for FY 2021’s second quarter and is expecting total revenue between USD 495 million and USD 500 million.
