An announcement was made recently by Renovo, an automotive software company and Blackberry QNX, a business unit belonging to Blackberry Limited, that both of them would partner together to develop safety-critical data management solutions for connected vehicles. This is aimed at ensuring integration of AI powered automotive data platform of Renovo with Blackberry QNX.
Through this partnership, both BlackBerry’s safety certified RTOS that is referred to as BlackBerry’s QNX ISO 26262 and Renovo’s AI powered automotive data platform, Insight is expected to be combined and unified, which is anticipated to advance the development cycles. Moreover, it is anticipated to help in product performance improvements and also considerably lower the operational costs for production fleets and R&D.
A fresh Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Automated Vehicles (AV) development platform that is accompanied by close to forty five (45) years of experience of both the partners, extensive knowledge of embedded systems, the ability of software platforms to adapt to the changing user demands and safety systems that are critical to functioning of an organization.
Chris Heiser, CEO of Renovo has mentioned that Renovo was proud to announce that both having been leaders in their respective fields, the partnership with BlackBerry has been made which is expected to expedite the process of releasing advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving from the lab to the open road.
About 150 million cars on the road are embedded with BlackBerry QNX technology. Some of the autonomous test fleet belonging to Renovo are also embedded with BlackBerry QNX technology. The integration of BlackBerry QNX technology with the platform of Renovo is vital for creation of a secure reliable in-vehicle systems. Both partners are expected to expedite the development and implementation of these features at scale in all parts of the world.
John Wall, SVP and Co-Head of BlackBerry QNX stated that Data is the lifeblood of software-defined vehicles of the future and being able to rapidly identify actionable insights is a critical problem facing the automotive industry. Moreover, he added that the combination of the data management and technological expertize of Renovo could help offer a solution to accelerate the development of safe and secure connected and autonomous vehicles.
