Denmark, September 28, 2020: EQT IX along with Chr. Hansen Holding A/S jointly announced on Saturday (September 26, 2020) that EQT has agreed to purchase the Natural Colors Division (“Natural Colors” or “the Company”) which is a subsidiary of Chr. Hansen Holdings.

Natural Colors is a major producer and manufacturer of natural coloring ingredients that is headquartered in the Hørsholm region of Denmark. It employs nearly 650 people and services more than 1,600 customers in the food and beverages (F&B) industry. The company has expanded organically by around 9% annually over the past five years till 2018-19. It generated consolidated sales of EUR 224 million during 2018-19.

Founded in 1874, Chr. Hansen is a multinational company of bioscience that develops natural ingredient solutions for the pharmaceutical, food, nutritional, and agricultural industries. It cultivates and manufactures enzymes, probiotics, cultures, and natural colors for a wide variety of foods, beverages, confectionery, and dietary supplements along with animal feed and plant protection.

Through this acquisition, EQT aims to strengthen its sustainability capacity, digital infrastructure, and supply chain setup. It also intends to expand its global footprint within the highly fragmented foods coloring market, especially in areas such as the U.S. and Asia. The price of the transaction is valued at EUR 800 million and the deal is subject to relevant regulatory approvals and customary terms. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the first half of 2021.

EQT is a distinguished multinational investment company with over EUR 62 billion raised capital and nearly EUR 40 billion assets under management across the 19 active funds. The company has completed several acquisitions in the past, the latest being the purchase of the leading online real estate classifieds platforms, Casa.it. The goal of the acquisition is to leverage the growth of Casa by expanding its product portfolio for potential homeowners and sellers in Italy. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

According to the latest financial report, EQT has generated adjusted total revenue of EUR 261 million during H1 2020 as compared to the previous year’s revenue of the same period which was EUR 282 million, a decline by 7.4% Y-o-Y.  Additionally, the adjusted net income also dropped by 41% to EUR 60 million in H1 2020 as compared to the previous year which was EUR 103 million.
