Redlands, California, September 10, 2020: The global location intelligence company, Esri, on Wednesday, i.e., September 9, proclaimed that it had fully acquired the SURE™ developer, nFrames. SURE is an industry-leading imagery and lidar 3D surface remodeling software. It allows imagery fusion with 3D GIS, with which nFrames and Esri users will be able to analyze and capture 3D data from the drone, aerial, and ground-based sensors in a programmed end-to-end method.
With this acquisition, Esri claims to gain a strong production engine that modifies imagery and lidar data into photo textured 3D meshes, point clouds, and true orthos. People in government, architecture, urban planning, engineering, and construction (AEC), using SURE, can create 3D maps at scales beginning from individual construction sites and cover whole cities and nations in an automated way, at higher resolution and repetition rates.
The Founder of Esri, Jack Dangermond, said that the company is excited to welcome nFrames and believes that during the time when Esri is moving on the path of innovation, the acquisition adds to the ability to develop top-notch 3D data from imagery, which is essential for the users in the planning, municipalities, and AEC industries.
As per the company, SURE software will now be a part of Esri’s ArcGIS platform, and it will be extended to ArcGIS Drone2Map and Site Scan for ArcGIS in the future. This will allow customers to create better meshes, true orthos, point clouds from drone imagery, and improve ortho mapping and drone processing capabilities.
Headquarted in Stuttgart, nFrames will now function as an Esri R&D center working on cutting-edge reality capture technology. The center will keep working on the SURE technology, help SURE customers, and render 3D GIS support across its product line.
Esri is one of the most prominent location intelligence firms globally. It has a customer base of more than 350,000 organizations, and more than 75% of them are the Fortune 500. Many big nations and governments around the world use Esri’s mapping solutions. On September 9, 2020, Esri also organized the ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition 2020 in collaboration with UN Sustainable Development Solution Network to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. The competition is to encourage the use of geospatial software to outspread the knowledge of sustainable development.
