Jan 19, 2020, 06:56 /Comserve / -- The release of this concept of electric air vehicles was created by Hyundai utilizing the open design process of Uber and by publicly releasing the design concepts, it employed an approach inspired by NASA
Hyundai Motor Company (KRX: 005380) and Uber (NYSE: UBER) announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that they entered into a partnership to design and develop Uber Air Taxis. The central idea of the collaboration is to build aerial rides with a ride sharing network for the future. Uber’s Elevate initiative, which aims to bring aerial ridesharing to people, will result in innovative engineering technologies for the creation of air taxi models. Hyundai is the first automotive company to join this initiative and contribute towards this partnership by offering its mass electrical vehicles production and large-scale automotive manufacturing capabilities.
As per this collaboration, Uber will be responsible for providing connections to ground transportation and air support services, along with customer interfaces through the airspace ride sharing network, and Hyundai will be manufacturing and deploying the air vehicles.
In order to deliver this announcement, Hyundai and Uber Elevate worked together to develop a Personal Air Vehicle (PAV) model named S-A1 which uses innovative design processes to enhance the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for the purpose of aerial ridesharing. The model was revealed at CES and it replicates the eVTOL by displaying that the vehicle will be completely electric and will require around 5-7 minutes for recharging; it will use distributed electric propulsion and be powered by multiple rotors and propellers; it will be initially piloted and later will become autonomous; the aircraft cabin is designed to contain four passenger seats with enough space for a personal backpack.
