Hsinchu, Taiwan, September 02, 2020: Taiwan based Nuvoton Technology Corporation on Tuesday has announced that it has finally completed the acquisition of Panasonic’s semiconductor business primarily operated by Panasonic Semiconductor Solutions., Co. Ltd. (PSCS). On 28th November 2019, Panasonic announced the transfer of its semiconductor business but due to the COVID-19 outbreak the plan was postponed.
However, the amount of transaction has not been officially declared yet. Through this acquisition, Nuvoton will not only acquire PSCS R&D manpower, Microcontroller, Sensing, and Component technologies but also gets the lands in Kyoto Prefecture, Nagaokakyo City, and four other locations. After the acquisition, PSCS will be renamed as Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan.
The acquisition aims to improve Nuvoton’s technological capability in the long run, diversify the product portfolio, extend its business reach and raise sales revenue, thereby increasing exposure in both Japan and the global marketplace. In the competitive semiconductor industry, faced with intense competition, Nuvoton will follow the ideals of sustainable growth and globalization to facilitate new innovative products and services to the global market.
Nuvoton Technology is a global semiconductor company under the aegis of the Winbond Electronics Corporation group. Founded in 2008, the company has its in-house IC products. Its specialties include Audio Application IC, Microcontroller Application IC, smart home and cloud security IC, and Foundry Service. Earlier in January 2020, Nuvoton partnered with Amazon Web Service Partner Network to provide reference designs for IoT (Internet-of-Things) devices and host its integrated products on the AWS platform. In 2019, it collaborated with OpenTitan Company to provide high-quality hardware RoT chips for data center servers and other devices.
According to Nuvoton Technology, the total revenue generated during 1H’20 showed a growth of 12% Y-o-Y and was TWD 5.194 billion. The net income after tax was TWD 344 million during the first half of 2020. Even during such unprecedented times, the company has shown a solid growth and thus it has made the latest acquisition to further expand its business globally.
