Elkland, United States, May 19, 2020, 08:49 /Comserve / -- A company has developed smart contact lenses which provide a display consisting of augmented reality to the wearers.
The Mojo Vision, a start-up that is responsible for developing this technology, would offer ‘invisible computing’. Further, the lenses created by the company would create a display that contains information such as notifications, allowing the users to interact through the lenses.
The various features of the contact lenses would consist of providing data and information to the user, providing a visual teleprompter to the user, navigation instructions and other such notifications. This will be done by creating floating notifications that appear in the field of vision of the user through the projection of a micro-LED display to the retina.
Moreover, the invisible computing technology will be useful for this technology as the information or notifications will only be seen when the user wants them to, and not distract the wearer of these contact lenses. The device will work when the user concentrated on a particular icon for any application, which will then open that application. Similarly, the application will be shut down as soon as the user looks away.
The lenses will be created with the correct prescription of the user. These rigid contact lenses can be used by people with visual impairments as well, providing them vision through its enhanced image overlays. It can be used for people with retinitis pigmentosa and macular degeration, among other conditions. Mojo Vision has received a funding of about USD 100 million for the development of this project, with experienced executives, opticians and ophthalmologists working together.
The device, which was being developed by the company for the past decade, has received approval as a ‘breakthrough’ device from the United States Food and Drug Administration and will continue its testing and clinical trials as a medical device in the region.
