Feb 17, 2020, 23:30 /Comserve / -- Duke Energy Florida (DEF) recently decided to announce the locations where two new solar plants are planned to be built in the State of Florida in the United States.
The announcement was made by Duke Energy Florida (DEF) regarding the locations chosen by it for building solar power plants in the State of Florida in the United States. The Twin Rivers Solar Power Plant that is expected to be built will cover 460 acres in Hamilton County in the State of Florida. About 235,000 tracking solar panels will be a part of the 74.9 MW facility. The panels would be able to track the sun’s movements and also be able to produce sufficient power to provide electricity for nearly 23,000 homes when it is performing at its peak production.
The Santa Fe solar power plant is expected to be built on a 600 acres land in Columbia County in the state of Florida.
Duke Energy Florida, that would own both the solar power plants would be responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of these power plants, which are widely anticipated to break ground in 2020. About 200 temporary jobs is anticipated to be generated from each solar project during the time of construction and they are expected to be complete by 2020.
Earlier, two solar facilities located at Florida, the first being the Lake Placid Solar Power Plant located at Highlands County and the other being the Trenton Solar Power Plant located at Gilchrist County had been completed in the previous month.
The Lake Placid Solar Power Plant had been serving customers since 09th December, 2019, with the facility comprising of 45 MW. This plant has the capacity to power at least 12,000 homes at the time of its peak production. On the other hand, the Trenton Solar Power Plant had started serving customers since 18th December, 2019.
Another 74.9 MW is being built from the Columbia Solar Power Plant situated at Columbia County in Florida, which would start serving its customers from April 2020 onwards.
The construction of another Solar Power Plant at Volusia County in Florida referred to as DeBary Solar Power Plant is underway and is expected to bring in about 3,00,000 solar panels to Florida. The service is expected to start from June 2020 onwards.
At least 370 MW of solar power is expected to be either under construction or in service during mid-2020. The company is planning an investment of USD 1 billion for the purpose of construction or acquisition of at least 700 MW of solar power facilities that are profitable, starting from 2018 until 2022 in the State of Florida, including plans made for another 1500 MW of solar generation until 2028.
