Salem, US, Mar 16, 2020, 09:30 /Comserve / -- Viking Cruises released their announcement through a video, with the Chairman addressing his guests who had already been booked, on decision of Viking to halt their operations until May 01, 2020, as a measure of precaution against COVID-19 globally.
The announcement of Viking that contained its decision to suspend their operations temporarily for a few weeks until May this year was released in their video and the Chairman had also in his letter to the guests who had been booked mentioned about their decision to stop all their operations for a temporary period until May 01, 2020, with the outbreak of Coronavirus becoming a cause of concern for undertaking travel operations around the world.
The letter had covered many aspects about the necessity to temporarily stop any further operations for the next few weeks. The Chairman had stated that Viking had always viewed their guests and employees as one large family. Viking had a huge employee base of nearly 10,000 individuals, with Viking laying its focus mainly in providing comfortable and luxurious experiences for its guests.
He had also stated that COVID-19 had made travel highly complex and difficult, with many ports shutting down their cruise ships operations. Moreover, places of attraction such as the Vatican, including a few museums had been closed, apart from restrictions imposed on crowds gathering at public places as well as other visitors.
He had shared some of the details on one such experience that involved a guest from Southeast Asia being exposed to COVID-19 and placed under quarantine during the course of travel on an international airline. He also stated that the other guests who stayed were also expected to be quarantined.
The Chairman further mentioned that he was writing the letter, as the situation has arisen that operating as a travel company may involve huge risks of quarantines and in many cases medical detention that could make travel experience bitter for the guests who have made plans. He stated that the company was financially strong and there was no compulsion to become anxious regarding the profits that could take a hit temporarily. On the other hand, he was optimistic about the flexibility in the working of the company that has allowed them to do what is best for their guests as well as their employees.
Torstein Hagen had further stated that the company would be offering a better deal for their guests who had earlier been booked for travel on the cruise by offering them a choice of obtaining a full refund of money paid or an option of a Future Cruise Voucher that was valued at 125% of all moneys that had been paid earlier to Viking. A time period of 24 months would be provided to the guests to use their Future Cruise Voucher in case of making a new reservation for undertaking any expedition using the cruise either through ocean or river. Moreover, the company would also be offering the flexibility of refund for the entire amount that had been paid by the guests, in the event of their vouchers expiring on the due date.
The company has been engaged in the task of issuing Future Cruise Vouchers which is 125% of all moneys that had been paid to Viking. Moreover, the alternative option would also be provided to the guests who can contact the company on its phone number or the travel agent until March 25, 2020.
The Chairman was confident and mentioned that the company is looking to expand by laying focus on destination-based travel experiences and by April this year is planning to announce their newest river voyages which would be in the heartland of America. He finally added by saying that the company would always stand by its guests, employees and partners and was optimistic and hopeful that they would too stand by the company, especially during such period of challenges.
Viking is a cruise line provider that was founded in the year 1997. It has been providing both ocean and river cruises. The company had won awards for the best ocean cruise line in travel and leisure for the years being 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. It has been offering scenic cruising on oceans and rivers globally with its fleet comprising of 79 vessels.
