Florida, USA, 10, Aug 2020- Brightline and Virgin Trains have decided to discontinue their partnership in South Florida. Just less than two years ago, Brigthline, USA’s only privately owned train company right now, went into a strategic partnership with Virgin Trains. Brightline then rebranded its trains as Virgin Trains USA. But as per Brightline’s parent company Fortress Investment Group LLC, it has severed ties with Virgin Group.

The company’s Virgin trains have been stalled since late March because of the coronavirus pandemic. The extended lockdown restrictions further hampered ridership needed for the business to thrive. Earlier, Brightline went into a strategic partnership with Virgin Trains and was operating its line of trains as Virgin Trains USA. Brightline operated in Florida between West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It announced in 2018 that it is going into a strategic partnership with the billionaire Richard Branson led Virgin Group.

Brightline leaders informed about this scrapped agreement in a monthly report that was published on 7, Aug 2020. It also said that the trains will drop the Virgin from its name and rename itself to Brightline Trains LLC.

Earlier in 2019, Virgin Trains franchise in the UK was stalled after their bid to continue its train functions on the line was disqualified because of some pension rules that they did not meet. It was the UK’s longest-running rail franchise.

It seems that this coronavirus pandemic has brought a lot of hardships for the Virgin Group.  Earlier in April 2020, Virgin Group’s airline service by the name of Virgin Atlantic filed for bankruptcy (‘administration’-bankruptcy is called as administration Australia) in Australia. In early August 2020, Virgin Atlantic filed for bankruptcy protection under chapter 15 in the USA also. The drop in the number of people travelling has harmed the company’s goals and led to this condition in various ventures of Virgin Group. Now, this cancellation of the agreement represents a hasty and apparently bitter end to the ties between the two groups.
